the TRUST team

The Trust for Developing Communities was formed in 2000, with the intention of working alongside local people and voluntary and statutory organisations to expand access to community development training, work and support across Brighton & Hove.

Managed by Barry Hulyer, who has been largely responsible for development and delivery of the WICO (Working In Community Organisations) Training Course, the Trust has a board of Trustees drawn from a variety of sectors with a common interest in community development.  Gill Sweeting provides  administrative support for the Trust, and in July 2003 we were joined by Liv Singh, Community Buildings Development Worker and Linda Saltwell, Community Development Worker  (CDW), both working across the City.  As a result of Trust work undertaken in disadvantaged areas, Neighbourhood Renewal funding was secured recently for three new workers: Tom Warder, Queens Park/Craven Vale CDW, Catherine Mitchell, Bevendean CDW and Darren Calder, Millwood Community Centre Manager -  Catherine and Darren starting in September.

The Trust employs a group of very experienced and skillful workers, and is therefore in a position to assist various community groups and service deliverers with complex and intensive research work to aid the development of communities and the development of more relevant services to those communities.

research

Commissioned by the 2020 Community Partnership (LSP), Barry Hulyer, Joanna Martindale (consultant) and Liv Singh spent the early part of this year working on an audit of community infrastructure in deprived areas.  In each of the neighbourhood renewal areas we identified and updated information on the presence of 6 key indicators of the community’s capacity to engage in regeneration. This report is now available.

the TRUST partnerships

The Trust values partnerships very highly.  Our Chairperson is elected as a CVSF representative on the 20:20 Community Partnership (LSP) and Trust workers are involved in partnerships as appropriate, for example the Workers Infrastructure Network (WIN).
