Autumn Covid-19 Vaccinations

COVID-19 is making an unwelcome return, and the number of COVID-19 infections may increase over the winter.

People at greatest risk are being offered a free Autumn booster vaccine, to give them good protection from becoming seriously ill or needing to go to hospital if they catch COVID-19.

The Autumn COVID-19 booster is available now for those most at risk, this includes anyone aged 65 years and over. Other people eligible for a vaccination are residents in care homes for older people, anyone aged 6 months and over in a clinical risk group, those who are pregnant, carers, household contacts of immunocompromised individuals, and health and social care staff.

If you have not been vaccinated before, or if you missed a previous booster, you can still have this Autumn COVID-19 vaccination.

If you are eligible, you can book an appointment:

Appointments are available at Mile Oak Medical Centre (call 0300 303 8060 to book) and some pharmacies in the city. These appointment-based COVID-19 vaccination sites may also offer walk-in clinics. This can change daily depending on the number of booked appointments arranged for that day. Check this website to see if a local vaccination site is offering a walk-in clinic today: https://www.sussex.ics.nhs.uk/your-care/covid-19-vaccination/walk-in-vaccination-services/

There are three walk-in mobile vaccination sites.

  • Wednesdays: 10.30am to 2.30pm, Tesco Superstore Hove
  • Thursdays: 10.30am to 2.30pm, Outside Hove Polyclinic
  • Fridays: 10.30am to 2.30pm, St Peter’s Church

You don’t have to book an appointment at those sites – just turn up.

You don’t need an NHS number or any ID, and your details will not be shared with police or the Home Office.

...And don’t forget to book your flu jab.

Eligibility for free NHS flu vaccines is the same as above, plus also:

  • all children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2023.
  • school-aged children (from Reception to Year 11).

Adults should be invited by their GP. Once invited, you should book an appointment with your GP or a pharmacy that offers the flu vaccine as soon as possible to ensure you are protected ahead of winter.

Most children are offered the flu vaccine as a nasal spray. Younger children will be invited by their GP and school-aged children will be offered this through their schools. Parents are strongly encouraged to fill out their consent forms to enable their child to get protected.
