We’re delighted to announce that following last year’s success, the TDC Kit Car Project will be repeated in 2020.
What is the Kit Car project?
Funded by Sussex Police, the TDC Kit Car Project supports young people from Brighton & Hove to build an F24 kit car from scratch and race it at Goodwood Motor Circuit as a part of the Greenpower Education Trust Formula-24 races.
The initiative aims to help young people develop practical and creative skills, grow together as a team and be competitive. The electric, single-seater cars can reach a top speed of 20-35mph depending on how they’re built. And although most of the competitors are from secondary schools who have been entering one or more cars for several years it didn’t stop the TDC team from reaching a top-10 position in their class last year and picking up the 2019 Best Newcomer award!
Greenpower Formula-24 races are won by the car completing the most distance in 90 minutes. There are two races at each event with 3 drivers competing in each race. This season we expect to compete at two race days at the Goodwood motor racing circuit as well as an open test day.
The project is run by a team of 3 staff and a volunteer from Sussex Police. They are all DBS checked and have experience working with young people.

Who can take part?
We are on the lookout for young people aged 11-16 who want to build and race an electric kit car over the coming months. We’re particularly interested in young people who might find that their behaviour makes it difficult to engage well in school – this could be a perfect project for you!
Starting March 5th 2020, workshop sessions will be taking place weekly in the Hall at One Church Brighton, Gloucester Place (BN1 4AA) on Thursday evenings from 5pm.
We will also be organising a go-karting evening that takes place on a Sunday evening in Lancing and there may be other additional trips as part of the learning experience of this project.
The whole project should last until June 2020 and will run during school holidays. To be a part of the race team the young person will need to be aged 11-16 years old and live
or go to school in the Brighton & Hove area.
How do I take part?
If you’re interested in taking part, download the TDC Kit Car Project document → which details important information and contains an application form. Once your application is complete, please email a copy to [email protected] or alternatively hand it in to a member of the TDC youth team who will submit it to the project manager.
