Role:
Volunteer

As a student, working with the Trust has reiterated the importance of grass-roots community development; it's not about making assumptions or delivering ‘top-down' solutions. It's about listening to people, supporting them to find solutions that work for them. It's about empowerment of individuals, increasing their involvement in community issues and, therefore, their capacity for participation in wider society.

As a volunteer, regular supervised sessions with Jenny Moore, give me the opportunity to discuss all aspects of my role, which makes me feel appreciated. In addition, the role variation has been great. I have been involved with outreach work, project planning, facilitation and door knocking. Presently, I am supporting a local residents' group to raise awareness of their local park; both in the community and with Brighton and Hove City Council.
