New Larchwood Activities Group

New Larchwood Activities Group have agreed to become less of an umbrella group withthe Art and Allotments Groups prepared to become independent.  Gentle Exercise, Mens Health Group and Women's Health Group are set to combine forces as the Coldean Health Consortium, which will be effective for future fundraising.

New Larchwood Art Group awarded funds

The Local Art Group has been awarded £297 from the Healthy Neighbourhood Fund and set about purchasing their own fixed exhibition boards at New Larchwood.  An exhibition of their best work is ongoing and received favourable comments at the Colean Residents' Association Spring Festival.

New Larchwood, Coldean Gentle Exercise Group

The Gentle Exercise Group held at New Larchwood, Coldean has switched its time and day to a Tuesday afternoon, as there is another local gentle exercise group holding sessions on a Wednesday.

A Day Out on The Bluebell

In April 2012 Portslade Community Development Worker Lorette Mackie organised a highly successful trip to the famous Bluebell Railway which was enjoyed by a multi-generation group from 'The Sundowners, members of the Freedom Club, members of the Portslade Youth Forum and two Mature Media Students from the University of Brighton; a party of 31 all-told.

Coldean Men's Health Group

On 4th April 2012 Steve Cole from Albion in the Community came to New Larchwood Community Cafe to give advice on cancer prevention.

Although this was targeted at males in Coldean there were some females in attendance.

There is a free health and weight reduction course on offer for people in the immediate vicinity of the Amex Stadium.  Community Participation Worker Steve Andrews has enlisted with local male residents of varying ages.

Coldean Black History Group visits the Coldean Art Group

On 3rd April 2012 at Steve Andrews' (Community Participation Worker at New Larchwood) encouragement members of the Black History Group visited the Coldean Art Group.

The purpose of the event was to record older people's thoughts on changing approaches to language regarding race and culture in their lifetimes.


Hollingberries 50+

The Hollingberries 50+ group will be holding their first AGM in June 2012.

The Hollingbury Bilingual Women's Group gave a great presentation about their group's activities at the recent Equalities Showcase event at The Brighton Dome.

Hollingbury group plant new trees

HAPPI group (Hollingbury Active Parents for Park Improvement) have purchased 6 trees for Carden Park which they have planted around the park to provide shade in the future.

Older Young Person's Youth Club in Coldean

Coldean Youth Project are opening an older young person's youth club.....
