Our Current Activities:
  • Support to H.A.P.P.I. (Hollingbury Active Parents for Park Improvements) group to project manage the upcoming park refurbishments, further fundraise and plan a launch event for the new park.
  • Hollingbury Newsletter Group to produce their 7th (Spring) issue of Hollingbury Hello.
  • Working in partnership with local residents, Active for Life, Christ Church Brighton, Adult Learning, Varndean College and Jasmine Court to jointly support a new 50+ group to meet regularly at the Gathering Place.
  • Support the LAT by pre-meeting with the local Chair and partnership working with council officers, other agencies and community groups.
  • On-going support and representation for local community groups by TDC community volunteer Ellen Robinson, and to the Together Group through Karen Burchell, a student on placement with TDC.
Achievements:
  • Growing out of the newsletter work, Hollingbury now has a successful website www.hollingbury.info.
  • Work with H.A.P.P.I. group to become formally constituted, undertake local consultation, tender for park works and raise funds for Carden Park Playground Renewal Project.  With TDC support, the group has raised £90k to date.
  • Supporting the new local community Chairs of the Hollingbury Local Action Team (LAT) and HY 5s (Hollingbury Youth & Under 5s) group.
  • Promoting partnerships with the newsletter group, Housing Department and Hollingbury Tenants & Residents Association to continue to develop the Gathering Place community venue.  As a result of successful funding applications, various local groups now pay rent for use of the Gathering Place.
  • Continuing to support the work of the LAT and its main priority around traffic and parking.
  • Instrumental in setting up Hollingbury Youth Club (The Carden Crew) which has now been mainstreamed.
  • Successful project with the local community groups HUMFRI (Hollingbury United Mums for Road Improvements), the Under 5s' Network, the local school and Hollingbury LAT to reduce speed limits in County Oak Avenue, running past the school entrances, and work on changing the road layout to improve the parking situation.
Testimonials:

"Since TDC has been involved in Hollingbury, it has begun to flourish.  Linda has encouraged and motivated residents in the community to get involved and to produce schemes and events for the benefit of everyone.  The latest example is Linda's drive and involvement with Carden Park, where about £100k will be spent on producing a park for all ages.  I have great admiration for Linda and everything that has been achieved so far."

(local Councillor & Cabinet Member for the Environment
)

"The TDC have done a lot for the people of Hollingbury, like getting various groups set up including Hollingbury Hello Newsletter, HAPPI Group and lots more.  I am really pleased to be in contact with Linda because if I hadn't, I'd probably suffer with depression, but luckily I'm involved in a few groups in Hollingbury which can actually make a difference to the area we live in and get people out of their four walls and into the community to help make improvements.  I think the TDC do a great job to get things in the local community changed for the better."
